The first dinner in Madrid!  The woman is Reyes, the accountant that Matt and his friend, Matt, are living with. The man next to her is her boyfriend, Pablo. They are wonderful people and a lot of fun. Even the chef joined us!  He had such a great time with the goofy Americans that came in!  He even gave us a free appetizer!

Matt is doing an internship at a local public school in Madrid. He works mainly with 2 first grade classes (in addition to a 5 course load). These pictures show some of the kids he works with as well as a lesson he gave the kids about the American Holiday of Thanksgiving. He taught the lesson entirely in Spanish. The man next to Matt in the bottom photo is the assistant principal. He is also one of the English Language teachers. (The principal is the other one).
Among the new vocabulary the kids learned is "mommy" and "daddy."
Matt got a real kick out of the Guardia Civil Hat - it is kind of goofy looking.  We actually found a hat store that sold them and we couldn't resist buying one!  We have it in the house and it brings a smile whenever we look at it.  We had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at Madrid's Hard Rock Cafe.  We had turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, green beans, apple cobbler, and ice cream - the turkey I assume was brought in from somewhere - there is rarely turkey found in Spain.  The place was filled with Americans and was lots of fun.

Larry was pooped! Hard Rock Cafe looks the same wherever you go!

This town was near the monastery of El Escorial - about a one hour bus ride from Madrid. It was up in the mountains and cold and rainy - but beautiful! Scenes From Geneva - a very different city than Madrid!

Here are two more scenes from Geneva - their trees are very unusual! Neither rain nor snow will keep these serious chess players from their game!
